Today, we had a shower. Big deal, people do that every day, so what. Today, we had a shower. We didn’t have a hokey cokey shower. We didn’t worry about falling down the plug hole. We weren’t reaching for non-existent grab rails. We didn’t slip or fall. The shower curtain wasn’t attempting to attach to wet skin and touch us up. We just had a shower. And omigosh it was fabulous. We have no idea how long normal people shower for, having been either in and out in moments or taking forever because of the shower hokey cokey but for about fifteen minutes we had, and more importantly enjoyed, a shower. We are clean and scrubbed and smelling faintly of mango. Getting in and out was a breeze compared to before. The absence of a proper plug hole, the absence of taps, the absence of the whole bath, made more difference than we had ever imagined. We weren’t expecting to enjoy showering, merely to have the experience made safer. We enjoyed it. We enjoyed it so much we might just have another one tomorrow.
