Today I had my eyes tested for the first time in two years – that’s standard, my eyes are ok except my distance vision is shot and I have no corner of the eye vision and the floaters but they’re ok in the big scheme of things. I suspected, however, that I would need new glasses – also standard.
A friend told me about an opticians that does home visits so I decided to give it a go and what a revelation it was. The eye test itself was much less of an ordeal and the optician wasn’t up in my face as much as when I’ve been to the branch in town – no idea why, but it made the whole experience better.
The icing on the cake, however, was the lady who sorted out the frames for my new glasses. In the branch the staff are very – too – insistent that you absolutely must see what they look like on, here’s a mirror, here’s another, let us take a photo and show you. No no no no no no NO! This lady was fab, finding frames roughly the same size and shape as our current ones but without the purple, the swirls, the flowers and the sparkles that I ended up with last time because their constant instructions to look left me unable to make any kind of sensible decision. I can’t remember if they’re black or brown, but that’s par for the course for me. They’re plain and boring and so long as I can see thru them I don’t much mind.
It was awesome to say that no, I didn’t need to see them on, didn’t need a mirror thank you, and have someone just accept that and tell me they look fine and place the order. So in two to three weeks I’ll have new glasses – the same lady will come back and fit them – and the whole process was so much better than I’ve experienced in the past.
