I have an online friend, who I’ll call X because I have no originality. We exchange tweets and messages about this and that. Because X is a safe person, and because they have their own mentals to contend with, I said that S could reply to their messages so they knew they weren’t being ignored. I’m not sure what I was expecting to happen – ‘sorry, Jen isn’t here’ maybe? – but I can look thru my iMessages and find that X and S have been sharing a virtual coffee – and that S is far too generous with the biscuits! This is the first time S has communicated with anyone, other than our psych, and not had to pretend to be me so nobody will notice. She also, cleverly I think, always seems to start her messages with “Hello” almost as a way to identify herself. It’s odd to pick up my phone and find things I haven’t written, while at the same time it feels slightly wrong to be reading someone else’s messages – I’ll have to make sure S knows how to delete anything she doesn’t want me to see. After so long spent hiding away, it’s nice that S can have some positive interactions as herself – so thank you, X.
