I’ve been busy crocheting. It’s a good distraction and the mindless repetition of stitches is useful. After several months and some time off when I couldn’t focus at all, I finally finished a blanket for a friend. At 3ft x 6ft it’s at the top end of my sizes for a continuous piece – by the end I had to sit on the floor to work on it because it was just too heavy and awkward to keep turning. But it’s kept me occupied.
I have three blankets to make over the next year, all a similar size to my friend’s but in a variety of patterns – I’ll decide which once the yarn has been delivered – and I’m putting the finishing touches to a second baby blanket for my youngest sister, with one still to make. I’m certainly going to be busy.
As distractions go, crochet is one of the more productive ones we use – there’s something to show for it at the end. An easy, repetitive pattern is also mindless enough that I can zone in and out while one that requires counting gives something to focus in on. I’ve also said I’ll learn to knit, altho I’m not sure I need to as someone else in our system says they can so I’ve bought some needles and will wait and see what happens.
