Someone wrote that they are failing at beating anxiety today. I replied with something my psych told me – everyone has off days. This is something I’m still learning myself – that an off day isn’t failing, it’s just an off day. Even “normal” people have them.
An off day doesn’t mean I’ve taken a step backwards, or that I’m getting worse, or that I’m failing. It’s just an off day – a day for doing what cannot be avoided, and ignoring everything else. I am trying to treat off days as self care days, not always successfully, but I’m slowly learning.
So if you’re having an off day, listen to what you need but also to what you are saying to yourself. You are your biggest critic, and you need to tell yourself that you’re allowed off days just like everyone else. I know I need to practice what I preach, so today will be all about crochet and Criminal Minds.
It’s not failing, it’s just an off day.
