Two years ago I taught myself to crochet, helped by my STR (Support, Time, Recovery) Worker at the time. Now I don’t have any uni work to do, I am able to kick back and relax while also doing something productive – a blanket for my daughter.
It’s been ‘Dinosaur Week’ on Nat Geo so I’ve spent plenty of time with my feet up in front of the TV watching a variety of programmes and crocheting. I love dinosaurs, crochet occupies my mind, relaxing is good self care and at the end of it my daughter will have a blanket for her bed so it’s a win all round.
I have a few other projects in the pipeline too, and plenty of new stitches and styles I can practice to keep me busy – I’m absolutely not missing uni but I was missing a focus. Crochet came up by chance in a conversation a few weeks ago and I realised I hadn’t done any for a while and really needed to get back into it. I’m very glad I did.
I can’t get the colours of my daughter’s blanket to look true to life in a photo but this is one I made, using the same pattern, for my youngest nephew
