Yesterday’s blog post (here) has been viewed a massive 153 times since I uploaded it. Over on Twitter, it has been retweeted and favourited more times than I can count, and the list of people sharing it reads like a Who’s Who of the police force.
I originally shared the post with North Yorkshire Police so they would know the actions of one of their officers had been appreciated, but now it has been so widely shared I am hoping that each police officer who reads it will behave in a similar way next time they are called to someone with a mental illness. Obviously, they must judge each incident and act accordingly – some people they meet will be violent or unpredictable – but for the people who are compliant and cooperative I hope I have maybe contributed in some small way to how they are treated.
Thank you to everyone who has visited my blog, who liked and shared it on facebook and favourited and retweeted it on Twitter. Perhaps I – we – can make a difference.
